Eastside Chapter, WSMTA Chapter Meeting

March 28, 2011

President Lu Leslan (formerly known as KaiLi Yang) opened the meeting at 9:48 am.

Minutes

 The February minutes were approved as posted.

Finance Report

Sherry Owen presented the finance report. (see attached)  She reviewed the income and expense summary.

Membership Report

Jeanne Ellis introduced the new members. She made the mentor list available, and explained and passed around the teacher referral list. She passed out the Participating Member sheet and asked that members return them as soon as possible.  She reminded members that membership renewals are coming up, and told members they need to check to make sure MTNA has their current email address if they renew online. 

Nominating Committee

Jeanne Ellis explained the voting procedure for the new slate of officers. Sharon Lawrence presented a motion and was seconded by Nicole Kim:

MOTION: Accept this written slate of officers.

The motion passed unanimously.

Adjudications

Sheri Skidmore thanked everyone for participating in adjudications and in the honors recital. She thanked Ariel Chou for running the Honors recital, and Ariel thanked the teachers who participated as well. Sheri thanked the teachers who offered their studios for adjudication locations. She is looking for one new church location for next year. Bonnie Debu suggested that there be more communication between teachers and the owners of studio locations next year.

Correspondence

Risa sent sympathy cards to Nancy Bent and Sherry Owen, and a get well card to Donna Bender’s husband.

Scholarship Competition

Julie shared that everything is set and all volunteers are in place. If anyone would like to take the judges to lunch please let Julie know.

Library

Pamela shared that there will be a used book sale at the April meeting, so members were encouraged to bring books to donate in April. If members want to check materials out during the summer months, please contact her. Also if members want material that is non-piano related let her know.

New Business  

Lu Leslan thanked Jennifer Li for all her work on the Opus every month.

Julie shared that each chapter was asked by WSMTA to put together a poster describing what is being done with collaboration within the chapter. The poster will be displayed at the state convention. Please send pictures, ideas and information on individual studio’s collaborative events to Stephanie White.

Olive also shared that the ABRSM sign up dates begin March 26^th and go through August.

Nicole Kim invited the membership to an open house celebrating her as a Steinway Artist April 30^th at 7pm at the Bellevue Sherman Clay.

Meg Mann performed with the Tacoma Symphony with a Jazz harpist over the weekend and it was a success.

Jeanne congratulated the teachers who participated in Seattle Young Artists this year.

Programs

Eric announced that Nancy Drake will be hosting the Independent Music Teachers Forum after the break. 

The meeting adjourned at 10:29am.
