President Julie Howe opened the meeting at 9:04 am.

 

Minutes

The minutes were approved as posted.

 

Finance Report

Sherry Owen presented the finance report. (see attached) She noted that the donations mentioned in the report were from both yearbook advertisers and matching funds.

 

Membership

Christina reported that as of now our chapter has 140 members

 

Chapter Dues

Carol Hibbard read the article from the Opus recommending the chapter dues increase. The following motion was made and seconded by the board:

MOTION: The chapter raise the dues for 2012 by $10.

 

The membership discussed the motion. It passed unanimously.

 

Carol read the following motion that was made and seconded by the board:

MOTION: The chapter will increase dues by $1 every other year starting in 2014.

 

The membership discussed the motion and it was tabled. The following amendment was presented by Kerry Itami and seconded by Sharon VanValin:

AMENDMENT TO MOTION: There be a 10 year limit on the dues schedule increase. It will be revisited in 2022 by the board.

 

The amendment passed unanimously.

 

Carol read the amended motion:

AMENDED MOTION: The chapter will increase dues by $1 every other year starting in 2014. There will be a 10 year limit on the dues schedule increase. It will be revisited in 2022 by the board.

 

The amended motion passed unanimously.

 

Survey

Julie handed out a membership survey, and the membership took a few minutes to fill it out.

 

Scholarship Recital

Yunbo reminded the membership that the recital is this Friday October 28th.  The membership discussed changing the date to later in November for next year.

 

Workshops

Sammie Marten shared that the first workshop is Saturday the 29th from 10-12:15 at Newport Covenant Church. Hans Boepple will be presenting ÒThe Seven Basic Needs of Pianists.Ó She shared the payment options with the members.

 

Adjudications

There was nothing to report.

 

Scholarship Competition

Yunbo Cassidy shared that this is the first year for the concerto division. There are 31 entrants so far. The concerto concert will be April 29th  at 5pm at Newport High School. Suggested donation will be $10 a ticket.

 

Monthly Recitals

Christina reported that a first recital went wonderfully and the students had fun. Nine students performed and ranged in ability from beginners to advanced. She has the sign up sheet for the November 12th recital at 5pm at Oliveland Studio. She shared the new rule that when signing up students, teachers must pay a deposit of $10. If the student plays in the recital, then the money will be returned to the teacher. Otherwise the $10 will be forfeited to the chapter. If a teacher cannot be present at the recital, she (he) must find a teacher that will be responsible for their students.

 

Certification

Julie shared that several members are going  through the certification projects.

 

Opus

Jennifer had nothing to share.

 

Program

Eric introduced Jon Roelofs who will be presenting on Foundations of Investing.

 

Other Business

Julie shared the need for a pre-meeting recital coordinator. Kerry Itami and Rachel LaFond agreed to do this.

Carol thanked the hospitality crew and reminded the membership that there are still a few spots open for hospitality in the spring.

Stephanie shared that there will be a workshop presented by Jill Timmons on how to have a career in music. It is geared toward high school students and will be Friday November 18th at 6:30pm at Lindbergh High School. Those who are interested can talk with her for more information.

Christina shared about her upcoming recital on November 6th at 2pm at Seattle United Methodist Church.

Julie shared the idea of starting groups for teachers who were in similar stages of life.
