Chapter Meeting
President Julie Howe opened the meeting at 9:35 am.
Newport Covenant Church Greeting
Administrator of Newport Covenant Church welcomed our chapter to their facility. Carol informed everyone that there are three parking lots, and EMTA members are welcome to use the upper lot and the south lot. The upper lot has some handicapped and limited mobility parking spots.
Minutes
The April minutes were approved as posted.
Two finance reports were made available to members (see attached). Sherry Owen outlined the 2010-2011 fiscal year summary and the current report summary.
Correspondence
Donna Sams presented the correspondence sent on behalf of the chapter during the summer months. Donna reported that she sent a sympathy card to a daughter of Dolores Jean McRoberts who passed away on June 22, 2011.She also sent a card to Randolph Hokanson to check on his condition after a knee surgery. Donna received a thank you from Renata Shumskaya for the sympathy card. Donna shared that she received a thank you letter from Music Link.
Membership Report
Christina Bach introduced the new members. Membership certificates were made available on the table during the break. She also gave a general invitation to all new members to attend the New Member Tea on Monday, October 3rd at her home. She mentioned that some memberÕs information is not included in the yearbook, so their names and information are listed on the back of the agenda.
Opus
Jennifer asked any members not receiving Opus to contact her. She also reminded members to send in their information for the Opus by second Monday of the month.
Yearbook
Julie acknowledged Olive Yau and Tara Brase for all their hard work on the yearbook. The yearbooks were passed out to the members. She reminded that the dues deadline is June 30th, and there will be no exceptions this year.
Workshops
Sammie Marten presented the fliers for the three workshops this year.
All workshops will be held at Newport Covenant Church.

District Conference
Yunbo Cassady encouraged teachers to attend the district conference on October 15th in Marysville. Elena Balabanova will present a workshop and masterclass. Flyers are available.
Carol Hibbard announced that our
chapter is sponsoring an opportunity for members who have never attended to
attend free when going with a member who has attended.
Scholarship Recital
The
recital this year will feature Hans Boepple, and will be held October 28th at 7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church.
Saturday, October 29, 2011 Dr. Hans Boepple will be presenting a workshop at
Newport Covenant Church. Tickets for the concert will be on sale during the
break.
Scholarship Competition
Julie reported that two confirmed judges for the competition are: Dorothy Fahlman and Jacques DesPres, and for a concerto portion of the competition Michael Miropolsky will join them. The dates for the competition are March 14-19th. A concert will be held April 29th at Newport High School.
Adjudications
Sherri Skidmore shared that the dates for adjudications are March 5-10.HonorÕs recitals will take place at Newport Covenant Church on March 25, 2012.Registration materials will be available online ONLY at eastsidemusicteachers.org as of November 28, 2011. Sheri also noted that there will be no more drop box, all forms must be mailed (postmarked no later than January 5, 2012).
Library
Pamela encouraged members to check out library materials. The library material list is on page 26 in the yearbook
Certification
Julie announced that our chapter has a group of teachers who will be
preparing for a certification together. She encouraged other members to join
this group. Julie also mentioned about certification grants.
Monthly recitals
Christina announced that there will be monthly
student recitals on the second Saturday of each month. Recitals will take place
at Oliveland Studios in Kirkland at 5pm. Teachers will sign up on a first-come, first-serve
basis at the monthly general meeting. Each participating teacher will be given
maximum of 8 min. for his/her students to perform. Monthly recital will be 45
minutes long. The first recital is scheduled on October 8, followed by November
12. Sign up sheet will be available during a coffee break.
Referrals
Stephanie made a referral sign up sheet available for members. A new list will be posted online and updated every three months. Mentor sign up sheet will also be available during a break.
Hospitality
Carol brought to the chapterÕs attention that now that we are meeting in a new location, there is need for hospitality committee to provide the coffee break beverages and goodies, and also have someone to do set up and cleanup after the meeting. Board members took first meeting in September, but after that we will need two or three members to sign up for each of our meetings and workshops. A sign up list will be available during a break.
Grants
Carol Hibbard announced that "The Woodcock
"Be a Friend, Bring a Friend" program is sponsoring an opportunity
for members who have never attended to attend free when going with a member who
has attended. Carol also explained about certification grants: WSMTA usually offers
grants for up to half of the cost of applying for MTNA certification. Woodcock
funds will offer grants for the other half ($100) to be given once a teacher
has completed their certification.
New Business
Julie mentioned that members will be able to sign a thank you card for Newport Covenant Church for welcoming our chapter.
Nicole shared that there are still a few spots open for pre-meeting recitals. She explained a concept of pre-meeting recitals.
Programs
Eric Shared about the programs for the year. He announced that Deborah Dewey would present a program ÒWith Head to the Music Bent - the Memoir of Randolph Hokanson Òafter the break.
