Eastside Chapter, WSMTA Chapter Meeting

October 23, 2006

 

President Carol Hibbard opened the meeting at 9:30 am.  The minutes of the September meeting were approved.

 

Finance Report

            Jeanine Edmonds read the treasurer's finance report. (copy attached)

           

Membership Report

            Selina Chu read the names of new members.  One visitor, Lisa Byers, was introduced and welcomed.  In addition, a new mentoring program was introduced.  The program is designed to help new members become acquainted with our chapter.  Current members were encouraged to volunteer as mentors for new members and/or members new to the teaching field.

 

Correspondence Report

There was no new correspondence to report to the members.  Donna Sams presented a gift certificate from EMTA to Gary Finkelstein to thank him for his continued hospitality to our chapter.

 

Teacher Referral Sign-up

            The teacher referral sign-up sheet was made available to the members.

 

Workshops Report

            Jennifer Li reported that the October 7th workshop with Greg Presley went very well.  The next scheduled workshop is a masterclass given by Paul Roberts on Saturday, November 4th at Helmer's Music from 4 pm - 6:30 pm.  Flyers describing the 2006-2007 workshops and registration forms are still available.

 

Adjudication Report

            Sheri Skidmore announced that printed registration forms would be available at the November chapter meeting.  The registration form will also be available on-line this year at the state website.  The new form will automatically calculate all fees.  Members should print the completed form and mail as instructed.  Carmen Still was thanked for her work in developing this useful tool along with the state adjudication chair.  Registration for this year's adjudication is due by January 8, 2007.

 

Ribbon Festival Report

            Ribbon Festival registration forms are now available in print and on-line at www.eastsidemusicteachers.org.  Participating teachers should review the newly revised staffing requirements.

 

Scholarship Recital Report

            Selina Chu reminded all members of this year's scholarship recital on November 3rd.  All ticket sales and unsold tickets are due by the end of the concert.  Additional tickets and flyers are still available.  Concert attire is encouraged for students.  There will be CDs and DVDs for sale at the concert.

 

Scholarship Competition Report

            Donna Bender announced that application forms would remain available at Sherman Clay.  Application deadline is January 22, 2007.  She reminded teachers that students entering the competition must purchase a ticket to the scholarship recital.

 

Pre-meeting Recital Report

            Nicole Kim announced that next month's pre-meeting recital will be given by Michi North.  She also encouraged members to email her with information about upcoming teacher performances.  This information should be submitted one month in advance so it can be included in the OPUS.

 

Certification Information

Bob Pajer informed the members that WSMTA has extended the grants program to July 31st.  He also encouraged members to talk with him if they have any questions regarding the certification program.  Carmen Still is creating a database to collect attendance information from the monthly programs and workshops.  Attendance at these programs qualifies at points toward recertification.  When a certified member is ready to send information to MTNA for recertification, Carmen will be able to print a letter signed by the chapter president verifying attendance at qualifying events.

 

Program

            Jennifer Li announced the post-meeting program given by Geisa Dutra - Chopin 24 Preludes Op. 28 "How To Overcome Their Technical Difficulties".
