Eastside Chapter, WSMTA Chapter Meeting

November 26, 2007

President Carol Hibbard opened the meeting at 9:41 am. The October minutes were approved as read.

Finance Report

Jeanine Edmonds presented the finance report. (see attached) She pointed out that the healthy balance was

due to the workshop fees collected and to the scholarship recital tickets sold, but that those funds would soon be

going for their intended use.

Scholarship Recital Report

Yunbo Cassady reported a wonderful turnout for the recital.  There were over 700 people in attendance, and

the net profit was $6,000. $3,000 of the profit will go to the scholarship fund, and the rest will go to the

Competition’s operation costs that will hopefully include the rental of a Steinway piano.  She thanked the members

for their support, and gave recognition to the teachers who sold the most tickets.

Scholarship Competition Report

Yunbo Cassady reminded the members that the deadline for the competition is January 15th, which is

different than printed in the yearbook.  All paperwork needs to be in by this date.

Membership Report

Rebecca Bennett reported four new members, and introduced those present at the meeting. Their

information was printed on the back of the agenda.

Ribbon Festival

The paperwork for the festival was due at the meeting, and was turned in to Judy Huehn.  A volunteer list

was also passed around.

Correspondence Report

Betty Mak sent a thank you letter to Randolph Hokanson for his wonderful workshop and to Michelle

Martin for her help in printing stationary for the chapter. She provided flowers and a card for Frank Weins for the

beautiful concert. A thank you note was sent to the Woodcock family in thanks for the generous gift to the chapter.

Teacher Referral Sign-up

Laurie Wright reported that there has not been much activity. The teacher referral sign-up was made

available to the members.

Adjudications

Sheri Skidmore handed out this year’s adjudication booklet. She highlighted the changes from previous

years. The booklet is available on the website. The adjudication forms need to be downloaded off the EMTA

website. Instructions on downloading the forms were printed on the back of the agenda. The yearbook (page 24)

contains helpful information. The forms need to be postmarked by January 3rd, or delivered to Sherman Clay by 5pm

on January 7th. Sheri encouraged members to ask her any questions they may have.

Certification

It was announced that the attendance list for tracking recertification points would no longer be passed

around. It is the member’s responsibility to keep track of events attended.

Miscellaneous

The members were informed that EMTA was named in Dorothy Woodcock’s will.  The chapter has already

received $15,000 and more is to be expected. And endowment will be created and will be used for 2 different

events; a teacher enrichment event and a student event aimed for average students. A committee of members who

knew her well has been formed.

Teachers of students who received honors at the MTNA and Outstanding Artists competitions were

recognized and congratulated.

WSMTA announced that students right out of college who were members of a collegiate chapter can apply

for a one year rebate for membership fees.
