Eastside Chapter, WSMTA Chapter Meeting
March 26, 2007
President Carol Hibbard opened the meeting at 9:46
am. The minutes of the February
meeting were approved as posted.
Finance Report
Jeanine
Edmonds printed the treasurer's finance report on the back of the business
meeting agenda. (copy attached)
She highlighted the encouraging balance, but also emphasized that there
are pending expenses from adjudications and the scholarship competition. She encouraged those with questions to
contact her.
Membership Report
Rebecca
Bennett reported one new member since the last meeting. She also read notice
from MTNA encouraging the chapter to collect the names of three people who have
shown interest in joining MTNA.
New Officers/Nominating Committee
Rebecca
Bennett gave update stating that there are important spots available on the
board without nominees. She handed
out a Nomination Request form, which was collected after the business meeting. Carol Hibbard informed members of the
seriousness of this situation. She
urged the members to seriously consider how they may assist the chapter.
Library Report
Sherry
Owen announced the music book sale next month at the April meeting. Members may help with this library
fundraiser by bringing music donations to the April meeting.
Teacher Referral Sign-up
The
teacher referral sign-up was made available to the members.
Adjudication Report
Sheri
Skidmore announced that adjudications went well. She reminded members to fill out adjudicator evaluations. Members were able to either mail them
in or give them to Sheri after the business meeting.
Honor's Recital Report
Sondra
Hopper reported that the Honor's recitals went very smoothly. There were 30 participants, which was
down 10 participants from last year.
Sondra announced that Elena Romanoff will be chair the Honor's recital
next year.
Scholarship Competition Report
Nancy
Jang informed members that one of the adjudicators will need a piano on which
to practice the evening of March 28th. She asked if a member would be willing to host her
practice session. Everything was
ready for the competition the coming week. Carol Hibbard thanked the teachers participating in the
Scholarship competition for their involvement in the competition.
Pre-meeting Recital Report
Carol
Hibbard announced that there would be no pre-meeting recital on April 23rd due
to a visit from WSMTA president Margee Webster.
Certification Report
Bob
Pajer passed out a questionnaire relating to certification issues. This was to help him understand the
needs of the chapter better with regards to assistance in certification and
re-certification. The
questionnaires were collected following the meeting.
Programs/Workshops
Jennifer
Lee announced that Ross McIvor, a CPA in Bellevue, would present the
post-meeting program dealing with taxes for musicians. Nancy Drake will present
the Independent Music Teachers' Forum at the next post-meeting program on April
23rd.
Miscellaneous
Carol
Hibbard announced that she will place a group order for Keyboard
Companion. The cost is $20 for the
year. Those who would like to
participate may sign up after the meeting.
Nancy
Jang will perform a recital with Regina Yeh at the University of Washington on
April 6, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are at the door.
Leng Tshua from Sherman Clay announced a program by
Forrest and Akiko Kinney on April 24th.
He encouraged the members to attend. He also announced that Sherman Clay will host a lunch for
the members this coming September.
Deborah
Gandolfo will be giving a class for anyone in the community. It is tentatively titled "What's
so Great about Music, Anyway?"
She will offer a free class to test the interest level. One possible date will be April 30th at
7 p.m.
The next meeting will take place on April 23, 2007 at
9:30a.m.
