Eastside Chapter, WSMTA Chapter Meeting

February 25, 2008

 

President Carol Hibbard opened the meeting at 9:46 am. The November minutes were approved as posted.

 

Finance Report

        Jeanine Edmonds presented the finance report. (see attached) There has been a lot of activity due to multiple chapter events. The financial CD use and gifting decisions approved by the board were read to the members.

 

Membership Report

        The membership update was listed on the agenda. The Active Membership policy was presented to the chapter and was printed on the agenda. After discussion of the proposal, a motion was presented.

 

MOTION  To amend the proposal as discussed with more inclusive items on the activities list suggested by the members.

The motion passed.

 

The board then presented the following motion.

MOTION To accept the Active membership policy as delineated by the Board and amended by the membership.

The motion passed.

 

Correspondence Report

        Betty Mak sent a congratulations card to Nancy Jang. She sent a thank you card to the Woodcock family for the gift the chapter received from the estate. A sympathy card was sent to Pat Widden over the loss of her husband. Thank you cards were sent to Joel from Mills Music for his amazing help at the Ribbon Festival, and to Mr. Mills for donating the use of the instruments for the festival.  A thank you card was sent to Eric for all his time and help with the Opus database, and a thank you check for him was donated to the African Boy's School. A get well card was sent to Sondra Hopper as well.

 

Teacher Referral Sign-up

        The teacher referral sign-up was made available to the members.

 

Workshops

        Donna Sams reported that the workshops went very well and were well attended.  She thanked all who supported the workshops.

 

Scholarship Competition Report

        Yunbo Cassady reported that Donna Bender was setting the schedule.  She asked that if there was a withdrawal from the competition to please let Donna Bender know.  Donna Sams asked for those who could participate as a door monitor to please email her.

 

Scholarship Recital Report

        Yunbo Cassady announced that Steven Spooner will be the recitalist for for 2008 Scholarship recital.  The time has also been moved to 7pm to allow more students to participate.

 

Adjudications

        Sheri Skidmore handed out the packets for adjudications and explained the instructions.  She emphasized that original score much be used unless a legal copy is proved.  The form to go along with legally copied music or music legally downloaded or printed can be found at www.wsmta.net  Measure numbers must also be marked.

 

Library

        Sherry Owen announced that there are new books and tapes available. She reminded members to return books that were checked out in November.  The new materials were purchased from the workshop surplus that was given to the library fund.

 

Miscellaneous

        New books by William Chapman Nyaho on African music are available.

        Information on the Seattle International Piano Festival was presented.  If there are any questions, please contact Ivona Kaminska or Christopher Bowlby.

 

Programs

        Deborah Gandolfo was introduced as the program presenter. Her program will be on "Outlining."
