Eastside Chapter, WSMTA Chapter Meeting
October 27, 2008
President Carol Hibbard opened the meeting at 9:49 am.
The April minutes were approved as poster.
Finance Report
Jeanine
Edmonds gave the finance report. (see attached) She is working with an
accountant to deal with the tax return. She reminded members to go through the
appropriate committee chairs when seeking reimbursement, and to use original
receipts.
Membership Report
Betty
Mak introduced the new members. A
sign up sheet was made available for those interested in the mentorship
program.
There
will be a New Member's Tea at Sherry Owen's home on November 3rd from 10-12pm.
Any new members from the last three years are welcome. Please let Betty know if
attending.
Members
need to contact Betty if they are not receiving the Opus, or do not have
nametags or their WSMTA certificates. Any address or email updates should be
sent to emtamembers@gmail.com
Correspondence
Carolyn
Carson sent note to Sherman Clay to thank them for the luncheon. She will send thank you notes to
Kathleen Heiner for hosting the Scholarship recital reception and to Sherman
Clay for delivering the piano for the recital.
Teacher Referral Sign-up
Laurie
Wright explained the teacher referral sign-up. The sheet was made available to
the members.
Scholarship Recital Report
Yunbo
reported a wonderful turnout for the concert. The net profit was approximately $7,600. The top sellers for
the recital were Donna Bender, Yunbo Cassady, and Tatiana Lanford. The complete list will be published in
the Opus.
Workshops
On January 12th from 10-12:30pm Jill Timmons and Judith
Cohen will present and perform on duet and duo piano literature. Extra flyers and sign up list were made
available at the coffee break.
Extra handouts from Leonard Richter's workshop were also made available.
Scholarship Competition Report
Due
to the success of the Scholarship recital, the competition will be able to rent
a 9-foot Steinway.
Ribbon Festival
Ribbon
Festival packets are still available.
All Musicianship exam questions should be directed toward Jeanine
Edmonds.
Musicianship Exams
Jeanine
explained that there was a mistake on the practice theory test for Level
8. There is a revised sheet
available on Wendy's Piano Studio website.
Pre-Meeting Recitals
All
recitals are filled for the year.

Owen had no news to report.
Adjudications
Detailed
information will be presented at the November meeting.
New Business
Matt from Sherman Clay pointed out some flyers on the
table for an upcoming concert, and informed the members of a new series of
pianos that will become commemorative Lang Lang pianos.
MTNA
competition is November 7-9th at Highline Community College, and the
Outstanding Artists competition will be at Prosser in Tukwila.
Programs
Eric
introduced Melinda Bargreen as the program presenter. She has been a music critic since 1977, and will share from
her experiences.
