Eastside Chapter, WSMTA Chapter Meeting
February 23, 2009
President Carol Hibbard opened the meeting at 9:46 am.
The January minutes were approved as posted.
Finance Report
Jeanine
Edmonds gave the finance report. (see attached) All the event registration
funds are in. She will
be moving some more funds in order to get the best rate.
Ribbon Festival
Jeanine
Edmonds reported that the tests are being revised for next year. One new workshop for next
year will be Introduction to bass guitar. Each teacher
will be receiving the Musicianship certificates from
WSMTA, and Jeanine will send student scores to each
teacher so they can fill out the certificates. If a student
received a 94% or higher on the theory exam, they get a
gold seal.
Membership Report
Betty
Mak made a sign up sheet available for those interested in the mentorship
program.
Members
need to contact Betty with any updates to their personal information, including
teaching
categories. Email her at emtamembers@gmail.com
Correspondence
Carolyn
Carson sent a thank you card to Mark Mills for their help with Ribbon Festival.
She will send a
thank you note to Mary Kaye Owen for her visit to our
chapter last month.
Nominating Committee
The
nominees for the executive board for the upcoming term were announced: President: Kai-Li Yang;
President-Elect: Julie Howe; Corresponding Secretary:
Carolyn Carson; Treasurer: Jeanine Edmonds;
Recording Secretary: Stephanie Myers. The names will be put into the Opus and
the vote will occur next
month.
Teacher Referral Sign-up
The
teacher referral sign-up sheet was made available to the members.
Scholarship Competition
Julie
informed the members that timekeepers are needed. Please contact Donna Sams if you are willing
to be a timekeeper.
The competition will be held April 15-18, and the outline for the
competition will be in the
Opus.
Adjudications
The
packets for Adjudications may be picked up at the front table.
WSMTA Clarification
Carol
Hibbard clarified the situation mentioned last month with the Musicianship
Exams. She shared
that the volunteer Exam Chair had been unable to
continue, so many pieces had been dropped. She emphasized
that WSMTA is fully supportive of the exams, and that
once a new chair is in place, these issues should be
resolved.
Carol also read an excerpt from a letter from Debra Florian, WSMTA
Education Chair, responding to
communication from some EMTA teachers regarding the
temporary removal of an adjudicator from the state
list. This
was done to help clear any misunderstandings or miscommunication between WSMTA
and EMTA
teachers.
Carol expressed appreciation for
WSMTA as a volunteer organization which supports music
teaching throughout our state.
Library
Sherry
Owen shared that there are two new CDs on Granados. The library will be open after the
business meeting.
New Business
Congratulations
for the awards won by the students of Sharon Van Valin.
Congratulations to Sondra Hopper on her nomination for
the Sammy Award.
Programs
Eric
introduced Carolyn Carson as the program presenter. The program was on Anton Bilotti.
The meeting adjourned at 10: 12am.
