Eastside Chapter, WSMTA Chapter Meeting

January 26, 2009

President Carol Hibbard opened the meeting at 9:40 am. The November minutes were approved as posted.

Finance Report

Jeanine Edmonds gave the finance report. (see attached) All the funds are in for the Ribbon Festival and Adjudications. She will be moving some CDs in order to get a better rate.

Membership Report

Betty Mak introduced the new members. A sign up sheet was made available for those interested in the mentorship program.

Members need to contact Betty with any updates to their personal information. Email her at emtamembers@gmail.com

Correspondence

Carolyn Carson sent a sympathy card to Joan Crow, and flowers and a get well card to Connie Hungate. She received a thank you note from Connie for the kind gesture, which was read out loud.

Nominating Committee

Kai-Li shared with the members the nominations for the committee. The following motion was presented by Sharon Lawrence and seconded by Nicole Kim:

MOTION: Accept Gladys Bath, Donald Denegar, Jennifer Li and Donna Sams as the nominating committee.

It passed unanimously.

10 Grands

Sondra Hopper and Kathy DeWalt announced the upcoming concert to benefit the Snowman Foundation. It will be held on April 3rd at 7pm at Benaroya Hall. If 10 tickets are purchased, a free one will be included.

Ribbon Festival

Carmen Still gave an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of the Festival. While the recitals ad workshops went very well, the musicianship exams had many problems. Since the tests were cumbersome and lengthy, some students were not able to take all of their tests due to lines. A sign-up sheet was passed around for those students who couldn't take the test. Teachers will be able to give those students the test in their studios.

Teacher Referral Sign-up

Laurie Ford Mitchell gave an update on the referral committee. The phones have been very quiet. She made flyers available to advertise for the referral phone line. The committee is also using a form to help track which teachers have had students referred to them so as to give all teachers equal referrals. The teacher referral sign-up sheet was made available to the members.

Workshops

Donna Sams reported a successful workshop season with wonderful attendance. If anyone has ideas for the 09-10 season, please contact Donna.

Adjudications

The schedule is still waiting for approval from WSMTA. The final schedule will be posted in the February Opus and the paperwork will be handed out at the February meeting.

President Visit

Mary Kaye Owen brought greetings from WSMTA.

New Business

Nicole Kim will be in concert on February 22nd at 4pm at Faith Lutheran Church.

Programs

Eric introduced Sharon Van Valin as the program presenter. The program is on helping students compose.
