Eastside Chapter, WSMTA Chapter Meeting

President KaiLi Yang opened the meeting at 9:43 am.

 

Minutes

The January minutes were approved as posted.

 

Finance Report

                  The finance report was made available to members. (see attached) Sherry Owen outlined the income and expense numbers.

 

Membership Report

                  Jeanne Ellis shared that member Rhoda Hinckley passed away. She will be sending the member updates through Joan Crow.

 

Referral List

                  Lauri Mitchell passed around the referral sign up sheet. Teachers have the choice to have their email addresses listed on the website. All certified teachers will be identified on the website.

 

Correspondence

                  Risa sent a sympathy card to the Hinckley family.

 

Scholarship Competition

                  Julie announced that the student schedules were being finalized. These schedules will be mailed to the teachers.

 

Adjudications

                  Adjudication packets were made available to the members. Donna Bender explained the packets and how to prepare the paperwork for adjudications.

 

Ribbon Festival

                  Sherry Owen read an announcement from Carmen stating that students will be able to grade their own theory exams. The students will then fill out a report based on their results and share them with their teachers so they can see areas where improvement is needed.

 

Library

                  Pamela Huang reported that two new books on Brahms and Liszt from the series The Great Masters are now available.

 

Vice President Visit

                  District Vice President Carol Hibbard brought greetings from WSMTA. She read through the mission and values statements of WSMTA, and she talked about the upcoming WSMTA and MTNA conferences. She shared different events and programs that WSMTA provides, including the Leadership seminar and certification.

 

New Business

                  Sharon Van Valin lost a pair of brown glasses at the February 1st workshop. Please let her know if they are found.

                  Nicole Kim announced that she has become a Steinway Artist.

                  Yunbo Cassady announced that Steven Spooner will be in concert at Sherman Clay Seattle March 7th at 12pm.

                  Ivona Kaminska Bowlby announced that Cornish will have two workshops this summer; one for 10 and under and one for teenagers. The application deadline is in April. The Seattle International Music Festival is adding two new festivals in April: the Romantic festival and the Contemporary festival. She handed out brochures.

Programs

                  Eric introduced the program presenter Yelena Balabanova who will speak on Russian literature and teaching styles.
