President KaiLi Yang opened the meeting at 9:42 am.
Minutes
The September minutes were approved as posted.
Finance Report
The finance report was made available to members. (see attached) Sherry Owen reviewed the income and expense lists.
Membership Report
Jeanne Ellis introduced the new members. She thanked Gladys Bath for hosting the New Member Tea and the board for providing the refreshments. Jeanne passed around the mentoring sign up sheet and the teacher referral list.
Correspondence
Risa had nothing to report.
Scholarship Recital
Yunbo Cassady thanked the members for all the sales made for the concert. Stephen Beus will be in town Tuesday through Sunday. She asked for helpers for the concert to arrive at 6:15. There are still lesson spots available. She asked if members would be interested in a casual get-together for students Saturday night with Stephen. The focus would be on the students, but parents would be welcome to observe. She will contact teachers who are interested with more information.
Workshops
Nancy Bent reminded members of the workshop this Saturday with Stephen Beus on productive practice for performance. She encouraged teachers to bring their students.
Woodcock Memorial Series
Julie reminded teachers that the deadline is today for the Memorial Series. Schedules will be sent out by the end of the week. The schedule will be made available to all members one week before the event.
Scholarship Competition
Julie announced that the competition registration forms are available.
Music Sale
Carol announced that there will be a music sale November 6th from 1-5pm at the Bowles home on Mercer Island. Money that is donated will go to the Beverly Bowles Memorial Fund to encourage composition. Funds will go to travel stipends for composition winners.
New Business
Sondra Hopper shared that the 4th annual 10 Grands concert will be Friday April 1st. They have raised over 2 million dollars over the last few years for the Snowman Foundation. Tickets are priced from $42 to $120. The Young Artists composition will be held again this year and is sponsored by KingFM. Students must be between 6-18 years of age, and applications will be accepted from November 8th-January 14th. See www.king.org for more information.
Ben from Sherman Clay thanked the members for their continued support and reassured members that Sherman Clay is fiscally stable.
KaiLi thanked Julie for leading the September general meeting last month.
Programs
Eric announced that Connie Wible will be presenting on teaching students with learning disabilities.
