President-Elect Julie Howe opened the meeting at 9:35 am.
Minutes
The April minutes were approved as posted.
Finance Report
Two finance reports were made available to members. (see attached) Sherry Owen outlined the 2009-2010 fiscal year summary and the current report summary.
Membership Report
Jeanne Ellis introduced the new members and passed out membership certificates. She passed around the mentoring sign up sheet and the teacher referral list. She reminded members of the participating Member designation qualifications.
Correspondence
Risa sent a thank you card to the Piano Connection for their generous donation. She sent a congratulations card to GayNell Cronin congratulating her on her new baby boy. She sent a get well card and flowers to Beverly Bowles, and a sympathy card to Tom Bowles after the passing of Beverly. She also sent a sympathy card to Ludmilla Feldman for the passing of her husband.
Yearbook
Julie acknowledged Olive Yau, Jeanne Ellis and Tara Brase for all their hard work on the yearbook. The yearbooks were passed out to the members. She reminded the members that the dues deadline is June 30th, and there will be no exceptions this year.
Scholarship Recital
Yunbo Cassady reminded members of the Stephen Beus concert on October 29th at 7pm at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue. He will be talking with students and signing CDs after the concert. Tickets will be on sale during the break.
New Member Tea
Jeanne announced that the New Member Tea will be October 18th at Gladys Bath’s home.
Workshops
Donna Sams presented the fliers for the three workshops this year. Jeffery Gilliam will be presenting on the Three Phases of Phrasing October 4th. There is a discount if all three workshops are purchased by October 4th. The other two workshops will present Stephen Beus on productive practice for performance and Jane Bastien on giving the gift of musicianship to every student.
Woodcock Memorial Series
Julie presented the Series to the members. Two different teachers will be providing master classes two times throughout the year. The first set will be November 18-20, and the second set will be February 10-12. Each teacher can put in one student, but may list up to five in the event that more students can be entered. The deadline for the application is October 25th, and the schedule will be completed by November 5th.
Adjudications
Sherri Skidmore shared that the dates are March 8-12. Booklets come out in November, and all registration information is online as well.
Scholarship Competition
The competition will be April 13-16. The adjudicators are Ludmila Lazar and Cynthia Wang.
District Conference
Carol reported that the district conference will be on October 9th from 8:45-4pm in Marysville. Jody Graves will be presenting on many aspects of collaboration. The conference will include master classes by Dr. Graves.
Pre-Meeting Recitals
Nicole shared that there are still 2 months in need of performers this year. She explained the concept of pre-meeting recitals.
New Business
Carol highlighted the other programs in the area.
Carol shared with the membership the life of Beverly Bowles, a longtime member of the Eastside Chapter. Several members shared their memories of her as well.
Olive Yau shared that the new ABRSM material is out. Please talk with her if interested.
Betty Mak shared new teaching materials that she received.
Nicole Kim announced that she will be having a performance at the Seattle Art Museum on October 1st at 1pm.
Connie Wible informed members of her workshop “Teaching Children on the Autism Spectrum” on October 2nd at her Musical Minds Studio in Mercer Island.
Randy Jackson shared that the Bellevue Philharmonic is hosting a fundraiser featuring one of his students in November.
Programs
Eric directed the membership to the list of programs in the yearbook. He announced that Deborah Dewey would present a program after the break on Margaret Saunders Ott.
